Read a Book or Watch Its Movie?

12:16:00 AM

Our English teacher challenged us with an activity. We were asked to write our opinions either supporting beggar-ism or not, or whether reading books is better or watching its movie.

This is what I chose and wrote about:

Reading a book or watching its movie is a conundrum that has been unresolved since forever. Literary fanatics believe reading to be their course of action, while the rest oppose this practice rather harshly — opting to dedicate their time to watching movies. But, when all's been said and done, it wouldn't be wrong if I chose to ally with those who prefer reading over watching.

It is a scientifically proven fact that reading make one smarter. Indulging into the technicality of this fact would prove to be quite the waste of time. However, when you spend hours watching a movie instead of reading it, you're placing your eyesight in harm's way. Not only does it waste your time, it practically inhibits you from learning anything worthwhile, whereas there are countless new words that can be learned through reading.

When it comes to expression, television turns out to be quite inept at the art. Writers, however, use their linguistic prowess to immaculately express their feelings, and also end up expressing those of their readers. And, what is the film industry if not movie makers making profit out of the writings of writers? For there to even be a film industry, there would first have to be an author's paradise.

Concluding my opinion, there is nothing but one thing left to say: You may not want to read even after lending me your ears. But, if countless of people give their preference to something which is not as beneficial as it's opposition, that doesn't make their choice the best.

Not one of my classmates clapped for me. That made me laugh out loud — in my mind, of course.
