Some If-You're-a-Girl Stereotypes.
5:15:00 PMPeople have a bad habit of believing whatever they're told; whether they should or shouldn't. This is how stereotypes usually become so credible; because everybody thinks them to be true. Not all stereotypes are wrong. But, not all are right, either. It's really about how you see things; not about what the masses believe and want you to, as well.
As far as stereotypes about girls go, there are too many for the human race to comprehend. Here's what my mortal brain could write about, with justice.
1. If You're a Girl, You Are Studious.
You see, it's not true. While the world's first programmer may have been a Lady Augusta, and the phenomenon of radioactivity may have been discovered by a Marie Curie, not every girl out there is bursting with knowledge. It would do our parents, teachers, and everybody else who's into taunting boys with the classical girls are better at studying than boys, to know that that might not always be the case.
Don't believe me? Check out how bad Cameron Diaz and Kristen Stewart were at school, online. Apart from celebrities, you have to know some girl who's bad at studying. I mean, seriously.
2. If You're a Girl, You Are Responsible.
Some are, some are not. This applies to boys, too. Many males have spent lifetimes being looked down upon just because their sister was always the "responsible" type. Not true! We're all human beings, aren't we? Not everyone is perfect. Similarly, not all girls are responsible. Some can't handle their finances, some can. Some need help with stuff, some don't.
3. If You're a Girl, You Are a Bad Driver.
YouTube seems to be "in" on this one. It succeeded in making almost everyone believe that women are bad drivers. Not me. Driving is yet another skill, isn't it? Every skill can be perfected, with constant practice. No matter who you are. The same goes for driving.
4. If You're a Girl, You Have a Pretty Handwriting.
Come on. I know someone in my batch who has this loopy, amazing handwriting. And he's a dude. Even I have an amazing handwriting. Even better than my friend's, if I may say. I have never seen a girl that scribbles and struggles to write — that doesn't mean there isn't one!
I'm gonna' find you.
5. If You're a Girl, You Are a Born Cook.
Once again, not true. No one is born good at anything. We find our interests, dedicate time to them, and get better. I'd eat everything my mom cooks if this were true; she's cooks some dishes great, some a little not to my liking.
I'm glad she doesn't read my blog.
6. If You're a Girl, You Can't Do Sports.
This is just boys being chauvinists. If this were true, women wouldn't be winning the Olympics. Some might even win against men. Some have.
7. If You're a Girl, You Don't Want to Get Your Hands Dirty.
We've all heard of this one. That girls can't fix cars, can't fix things around the house. Like I said before, fixing things qualifies as a skill. If one practices enough, they can get good at it.
8. If You're a Girl, You Are Not Physically Strong.
To settle this one, you should go and tell a female wrestler — in her face — that you think she's not physically strong.
If you live after that, you'll know your answer.
Don't believe whatever you are expected to. Don't assign labels to people because you're expected to. This isn't a dictatorship; everybody has a right to the truth. Let's sue stereotypes!
